James Dewitt Yancey, alias “J Dilla” or “Jay Dee”, was an American record producer who emerged from the mid-1990s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. His music had an increasing influence on many rap and electronic producers. Yancey died in 2006 of the blood disease TTP.
I was sitting at home with my mom, when I heard of his death. For the first time I started to cry. Crying over a dead musician. It never happened again. His musical masterpieces have influenced my youth and my life, to this moment. Today he would be 38 years old. Rest in peace Mr. Yancey.
